World Health Day: Our Planet, Our Health

World Health Day

With all the events happening around the world, sometimes we forget about the things that truly matter: our planet and our health. Every year, we celebrate World Health Day to kind of remind us to take a break and reflect on the activities we do for our health.

Today, let’s find out one efficient way to protect our planet while keeping you safe and healthy when you’re staying indoors.

Why Do We Celebrate World Health Day?

World Health Day is celebrated on the 7th of April every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. Each year, a theme is selected to highlight a priority area of public health concern in the world.

For this year’s celebration, they want to focus on an important theme that is continuously becoming even more of a global issue: Our Planet, Our Health.

The way we protect our planet also impacts our efforts for our health. When our environment is healthy, it reflects in our bodies. For instance, when the indoor air in your area has a high level of particulate, it can trigger the problem of people with allergies or health issues. This is why having good ventilation and taking ways to help create quality air is vital in protecting both our planet and our health.

Improving Ventilation in Your Home

When targeting to get good ventilation indoors, you have two options: bringing fresh air into your home and having an air purifier to filter the indoor air.

1. Let as much fresh air enter your home as possible

Bringing fresh air from the outdoors into your home can help keep the harmful particles from accumulating indoors.

      • You can open the windows and doors of your home as long as it’s safe to let
outdoor air enter and move inside.
      • Use fans to help move harmful particles inside to outside. You can place it
close to an open window or door.

However, this option can also cause harm to everyone in your home. When the outdoor air is more polluted than that of the indoor, it can bring even more pollution. Plus opening doors and windows is ineffective and not recommended when raining. The air outside during this time is humid, which can, even more, invite particles to build up in your home.

2. Have an Air Purifier to Filter the Indoor Air

Secure a reliable air purifier that can help capture harmful particles in your home. Closing doors and windows when using it can help bolster the effects of the equipment.

      • Choose an air purifier that utilizes a High-Efficiency Particulate Air or HEPA filter.
This type of filter can trap small particles for up to 99.97% including dust, pollen,
mold, bacteria, and other airborne particles.
      • Change the filter regularly every three months or depending on the recommended
duration of the manufacturer. An air purifier that uses a filter past the due date of
change can cause harm to your health.
      • Have your unit be checked or inspected by a professional from time to time
        to ensure its efficiency.
